The Institute of Social Development is formerly known as the Institute of Human Resources Development and Utilization under the State Development Planning Commission, which was founded in May 1988 and renamed as the Institute of Social Development under the State Development Planning Commission in January 1995. It is committed to study on major issues concerning social development in the present stage and providing macroeconomic decision making related to national economy and social development with theoretical supports, policy thinking and suggestions on countermeasures. It is mainly engaged in studies on the fields below: strategies for coordinated development of economy and society; social development planning; people’s livelihood; employment as well as development and utilization of human resources; resident income and consumption; social justice and social insurance; education and educational industry; public health and public medical services; culture and cultural industries; social management system; social organizations; public security and social stability; women, children and young people; population and aging; foreign social development theories and social policies.
