On May 31, the "2019 Yangtze River Forum” was jointly hosted by the Yangtze River Economic Belt Development Research Center of the Counselors' Office of the State Council and AMR. Huang Chuping, member of the Standing Committee of the Hubei Provincial Party Committee and executive vice governor, and Zhao Bing, member of the Party Leadership Group of the Counselors' Office of the State Council and deputy director, attended and addressed the forum. Keynote speeches were delivered by Li Yuguang, deputy director of the State Intellectual Property Office; Ma Qiang, deputy director of the Department of Basic Industries of NDRC; Su Jie, deputy director of the Comprehensive Planning Department of the Ministry of Transport; and Wu Xiaohua, vice president of AMR.
Vice President Wu analyzed the development status of the Yangtze River Economic Belt from six dimensions (economic contribution, green development, innovation leadership, regional coordination, waster basin opening up and development sharing). He pointed out that initial results have been achieved in the high-quality development of the Yangtze River economic belt. On the whole, the comprehensive index of high-quality development of the economic belt has continued to rise in the past six years since 2012, he said. Specifically, the speed of opening up is the fastest, continued improvements are seen green development, innovation and sharing, but there is still much room for coordinated development, he remarked. Structurally, the lower reaches, especially the Yangtze River Delta region, have provided a strong driving force for innovation, the economic contribution of the middle reaches continues to increase, and the upper reaches play a key role in enhancing regional coordination, he added.
Luo Rong, Deputy Director of the Department of Research Planning and Management of AMR, was invited to preside over the dialog on "Topic 1: Ecological Priority Promoting Green Development". She discussed the connotation and path of ecological priority and green development with Zhang Zhenyu, chief of the Division of Key Water Basins Protection and Restoration, Department of Water Ecology and Environment, Ministry of Ecology and Environment; Jiang Xiaoting, counselor of Sichuan Provincial Government; Zeng Gang, dean of the School of Urban and Regional Science of East China Normal University; and Chang Jianbo, director of the Institute of Water Ecology of Wuhan University.Shen Bing, deputy director of the AMR Institute of Spatial Planning and Regional Economy, participated as an expert in the dialog on “Topic 3: Regional Overall Planning to Promote Coordinated Development”. She cited a large number of data to prove the important role of the Yangtze River Economic Belt in promoting the coordinated regional development, which was highly recognized by the thematic host.
